With West Nile Virus infections at their highest levels since 2004, Tulsa, OK residents are becoming increasingly alarmed by all the mosquito related deaths in and around the state.  Eighty percent of the nation’s reported West Nile cases stem from Oklahoma,Texas, and Mississippi.

On Monday, a Fort Worth,TX resident passed away due to an illness caused from The West Nile Virus. It is the second such fatality and 159th confirmed West Nile case in Forth Worth, which is some 282 miles from Tulsa. The victim was in his or her 80’s. According to public health officials, the elderly and the young are most vulnerable to the virus.

The Mayor of Dallas issued a public health emergency as 190 confirmed cases have been documented in DallasCounty, leading to 10 deaths. Public health officials are urging the public to take preventative measures to avoid contracting the virus.

Mosquito Control

The most effective way to remove mosquitoes on your property is to kill their larva. Mosquito dunks, or larvicides, are dropped into water killing larva and stopping mosquitoes from laying their eggs. Treatments last for 30 days and cover 100 square feet regardless of depth. Pest control professionals can also spray your property frequently to help control the mosquito population.
